Basement decisions

Basement partition or foundation lining removal?

Is the basement wall dividing rooms or lining the outside foundation?

A room divider and a lining built against the foundation have different retained boundaries. The first can affect adjoining rooms; the second can expose a perimeter assembly for further review. Identify which condition you have without assuming either is non-structural or free of services.

Planning guidance by MetroPoint Demolition. Site conditions and the agreed professional scope determine the final removal.

Compare the boundaries

  1. Room divider

Name both rooms and the finishes intended to remain on each side.

  2. Perimeter lining

State whether removal stops at a backing layer or exposes the foundation for assessment.

  3. Mixed junction

Where a partition meets the perimeter, mark which branch leaves and which stays.

Describe the end condition at the junction

A basement plan can make a wall look like a single continuous line even where construction changes. Show the junction in photographs and tell the contractor whether the goal is to combine rooms, review the foundation or replace insulation and finishes. Those purposes lead to different removal extents.

Keep moisture treatment, insulation design and structural conclusions with the appropriate professionals. MetroPoint can assess the agreed removal, but exposed concrete does not establish that a foundation is sound or dry. If a retained branch relies on the removed construction, the project team must resolve its support or reinstatement before the boundary is final.

Questions for the assessment

  • Is the purpose a layout change or perimeter exposure?
  • Which branch at the junction stays?
  • Who reviews the exposed or retained assembly?

Choose the next step

Read the matching service scope and exclusions, then describe what you want removed and what must remain. Your service choice can be corrected in the form.
