Retained structures and concrete
Concrete removals for a commercial EV charging retrofit
Commercial EV charging work can need concrete removed before the installation contractor begins its next stage. Start from that contractor's design. The number of chargers is not enough to describe the pads, crossings or retained access surfaces affected by the building work.
Planning guidance by MetroPoint Demolition. Illustrative comparisons describe decisions, not completed projects.
Illustrative parking-area comparison
| Location | Possible concrete-removal question | Separate installation responsibility |
|---|---|---|
| An obsolete pad | Which defined concrete element conflicts with the new layout? | Design of the replacement foundation or mounting arrangement |
| A reviewed service crossing | What opening extent is specified? | Electrical route, utility coordination and excavation |
| Retained entrance area | Which surfaces must remain available or be reinstated? | Site access plan and new civil works |
These are planning examples, not charger or foundation designs. The responsible installation professionals determine utility capacity, equipment positions and route requirements. MetroPoint's assessment concerns identified concrete breaking and removal.
Distinguish the surface from what lies beneath
Available records and project review should identify affected construction and services. Do not treat a painted route on the pavement as a complete demolition instruction. Mark uncertain areas and the party resolving them before defining the final boundary.
Specialist cutting or coring is not automatically included. Neither are excavation, cable installation, new foundations, paving or commissioning. Where these packages meet the removal, name the provider and the condition needed for the next stage.
Compare a local alteration with a connected package
A single pad removal may have a limited retained edge. A route crossing several bays or an entrance has different access and handover needs. The facility team must review those locations and the proposed work sequence rather than inferring that all parking remains available.
Ask the receiving contractor whether it needs open access for further investigation, a defined exposed base or another reviewed condition. Do not describe removal completion as a functioning charging station.
Enquire with the installation information
Provide the property location, proposed concrete areas and the installation designer or contractor's requirements. Identify retained entrances and any unresolved service information. This keeps the demolition contribution clear without implying electrical installation, utility approval or charging-performance capability.
