Shower screen removal versus enclosure demolition

Am I removing just the shower glass or the complete shower assembly?

A screen or door removal is a different request from removing tiled walls, a base, a curb or the backing behind them. Name each component. Glass fixings can meet surfaces you intend to keep, so the condition of those interfaces matters even when the removal appears limited.

Planning guidance by MetroPoint Demolition. Site conditions and the agreed professional scope determine the final removal.

Compare the boundaries

  1. Screen or door

Identify fixed panels, moving doors and tracks; have a suitable professional assess handling and attachment points.

  2. Enclosure finishes

Define the tiled faces and returns independently of the glazing.

  3. Base and curb

Include these only under an agreed reconstruction plan with the responsible installer and plumber.

Separate appearance changes from water-management decisions

Changing a screen for a different style does not automatically call for a full shower strip-out. Equally, removing glass does not establish that the remaining shower is watertight or suitable for a new door. The replacement installer must decide what existing surfaces and fixing positions can be used.

Photograph the full enclosure from outside it and note which edges are to remain. Do not test bonded or fixed panels by pulling on them. If the request includes opening the curb or base, make that explicit rather than hiding it under the phrase shower removal. MetroPoint assesses the agreed demolition portion; repair and installation responsibilities stay separately identified.

Questions for the assessment

  • Which glass and tracks leave?
  • Are tiled returns retained?
  • Who assesses the remaining assembly for the new enclosure?
