Glazed office partition or solid wall removal?

How does a glass office enclosure change the removal enquiry?

Glass, framing, doors and adjacent solid construction should be listed separately. A glazed partition may be a demountable system, but appearance does not prove that it can be recovered or moved. Handling, connection details and intended reuse need review before its removal is grouped with ordinary wall debris.

Planning guidance by MetroPoint Demolition. Site conditions and the agreed professional scope determine the final removal.

Compare the boundaries

  1. Glazing and frame removed

Identify all panels, door leaves and perimeter tracks within the agreed system.

  2. System retained for reuse

Obtain the system supplier’s requirements and agree condition, labelling and storage without guaranteeing recovery.

  3. Solid returns retained

Mark wall and ceiling junctions where the glass system meets construction that stays.

Resolve reuse before dismantling is scoped

If another office will receive the system, ask its installer whether the existing sizes, hardware and condition suit that use. A request to save glass without a receiving plan leaves handling and storage unresolved. Provide any product records and photographs of the whole enclosure from safe floor-level positions.

Building management should confirm the suite boundaries and relevant approvals. The contractor assesses the removal method and route; the owner should not release glass fixings to help with the enquiry. State what is to remain at the floor and ceiling once tracks leave, including who owns the subsequent repair.

Questions for the assessment

  • Is the system leaving as debris or for proposed reuse?
  • Are product details available?
  • Who repairs track lines in retained finishes?
