Bathroom decisions

Shower leak investigation or complete removal?

Should a suspected shower leak lead to a small opening or a complete bathroom strip-out?

Start with the person responsible for investigating the leak. A limited opening answers a defined inspection question; a full strip-out prepares for replacement. They need different instructions and neither should be used as a substitute for diagnosing the cause. MetroPoint does not offer leak diagnosis or waterproofing certification.

Planning guidance by MetroPoint Demolition. Site conditions and the agreed professional scope determine the final removal.

Compare the boundaries

  1. Investigation opening

The investigating professional identifies the location, extent and what must remain available to inspect.

  2. Replacement scope

The bathroom designer and installer define the assemblies to remove for the new work.

  3. Unresolved cause

Keep wider removal conditional until the responsible professional gives direction.

Preserve evidence and separate decisions

Share when and where water was observed without trying to expose the source yourself. Photographs taken from accessible areas, the location of plumbing fixtures and the investigator’s written request are more useful than a general instruction to remove anything wet. Do not assume a stain identifies the point of entry.

Agree who will inspect the opening before anything is covered or further material is removed. If the investigation leads to a larger reconstruction, record the changed extent, retained areas and next-trade responsibilities. That avoids presenting a destructive investigation as a repair or claiming that removal has solved the water problem.

Questions for the assessment

  • Who is directing the investigation?
  • What question should the opening answer?
  • Who authorises expansion or reinstatement?

Choose the next step

Read the matching service scope and exclusions, then describe what you want removed and what must remain. Your service choice can be corrected in the form.
